Commission. The word means "an authoritative order, charge or direction, the power thus granted, and the act of committing or giving a charge." Lots of things are commissioned. A quick Google search of the word "commission" will bring up links to "European commission, national commission on terrorist attacks on the United States,
However, the commission that Jesus gave the church is different. It's not a government agency or a group of people put together to investigate something...No, this commission is great. Important. Critical. Essential. Great.
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen" (Matt. 28:19-20).
The commission is simple: Go and make disciples. Simple doesn't necessarily mean easy. Simple doesn't always mean elementary. It is simple, yet it is profound. Our willingness to follow, obey and live out that commission will affect the nations. FOCUS 2010 is aimed at bringing our focus to the commission.
Days 9 & 10 prayer emphasis: For the next two days I'm asking you to pray for FOCUS. This is an important weekend for our church family. Tomorrow (Friday) I will also be fasting. If you would like to join me in this fast, please do so. We need clarity. We need FOCUS. We need our passion for the commission to be renewed. Please pray toward that end.
